Nick Maduros, Secratary of Government Operations Agency

Nick Maduros was appointed Secretary of Government Operations in 2025, overseeing 13 state departments with more than 23,000 employees and a $73‑billion budget. His leadership focuses on improving government efficiency through procurement reform, streamlined hiring, IT modernization, and the strategic use of artificial intelligence. Before joining the Governor’s Cabinet, he spent nearly eight years as director of the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, managing 42 tax and fee programs that generated close to $100 billion annually. A Stockton native, he is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School and now resides in Davis with his family.
