This particular winnowing fork is a replica, but from historical documents and research we've carried out, this is thought to be a pretty good example of what one would have looked like. "Winnowing Fork People use a winnowing fork in the process of harvesting grain. The winnowing fork is a long wooden stick with 6 metal or wooden spikes at the top. The spikes are 50cm long. People use a winnowing fork to throw grain into the air. When the grain is in the air the wind blows away the light straw and the heavier grain falls to the ground. People collect the grain on the ground and remove the dirt. People then store the grain or take it to be made into flour. John the Baptist warned that Jesus would come with a winnowing fork in his hand. He did not mean he would be holding a real winnowing fork. He meant that Jesus will separate those who belong to him and those who don’t, just like the winnowing fork separates the heavy grain from the light straw. " What is the Video Bible Dictionary? How do you explain what a desert wilderness to someone who’s only ever lived in a jungle? Or how can a person understand what a winnowing fork is when they’ve never seen one? The Video Bible Dictionary is an ambitious project to film items, objects and places mentioned in the Bible which will be collated into a single resource to help people understand the scriptures. Basically what the things and places in the Bible really look like. Who’s it for? The primary audience is for Oral Preference Learners. What’s an Oral Preference Learner? A person who prefers to listen, learn and pass on information orally rather than through reading (most of us, right?). What this means for us when we create a video is we need to show these items, objects and places in context of a person. Do you remember those old school textbooks which showed a silhouette of a dinosaur with a silhouette of a person standing next to them? It gave you an understanding of how big the dinosaur was, right? This is the same thing. However most of what we produce will be informative for any audience, young or old. Why do this? The Video Bible Dictionary is part of a larger project to provide a resource to support the local church around the world as they teach and share Jesus with those who have yet to hear about Him. Who do you work for? This project is being produced by SRV in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators and ETEN (short for ‘Every Tribe Every Nation’). Who am I?
