'The NHS saved my life' says Boris Johnson after leaving hospital

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has thanked the NHS “for saving my life” after he was discharged from hospital following treatment in intensive care for Covid-19. He paid particular tribute to two nurses - one from New Zealand and one from Portugal - “who stood by my bedside for 48 hours when things could have gone either way”. In a video message he said: "It is hard to find the words to express my debt to the NHS for saving my life." He added, "the efforts of millions of people across this country to stay home are worth it... Together we will overcome this challenge, as we have overcome so many challenges in the past. " He said: "If I mention two nurses in particular who stood by my bedside for 48 hours when things could have gone either way. "Jenny from New Zealand, Invercargill on the South Island to be exact, and Luis from Portugal, near Porto. "And the reason in the end my body did start to get enough oxygen was because for every second of the night they were watching and they were thinking and they were caring and making the interventions I needed."
