Tension escalated in Bagalkot after Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik was taken into preventive custody by police despite prohibitory orders in place. Authorities reportedly detained him as a precautionary measure to prevent any possible law-and-order disturbance following recent incidents of stone-pelting. Speaking before being detained, Muthalik strongly criticized the state government, alleging that action was not being taken against those who raised “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans, while activists attempting to “create awareness” were being restrained. He accused the government of curbing freedom of expression and said that Congress leaders were acting against constitutional values. He further alleged that individuals involved in stone-pelting were not being externed, while nationalist voices were being targeted. “Let them arrest me.
