It looks like a river. In fact, the Schlei is the longest estuary in the Baltic Sea: it offers an idyllic 42-kilometer holiday region on the banks and on the water. Jo Hiller takes the houseboat from Kappeln to the tip of the Schlei in Schleswig and then sets off on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route via Eckernförde back to the Baltic Sea. It passes small fishing villages with thatched houses such as the listed Sieseby and tourist centers such as the Ostseebad Damp. On the way he meets people who live on, with and from the Schlei: with a professional fisherman he traces the fishing tradition of the Vikings. He visits a fish smokehouse and the circumnavigator Wilfried Erdmann, who has settled on the Schlei. In addition, Jo Hiller goes in search of the television village "Deekelsen", where "Der Landarzt" had his practice for years. Places of this fictional village can still be visited today: a café at Gut Lindauhof and the Holländerhof Wagersrott with its rose garden. The Schlei is an arm of the Baltic Sea north of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. It is around 42 kilometers long and separates the two peninsulas fishing and swans from each other. The Vikings already knew the sea route of the fjord and left their mark. The water in the Schlei is so-called brackish water, a mixture of fresh and salt water. The fairway, which is only around three meters deep, cannot be used by large freighters, which pleases the many sailors and water sports enthusiasts. The paddle steamer "Schlei-Prinzess" and two other excursion boats go on the big tour from Schleimünde to Schleswig and back again. In many ports you can rent houseboats with or without a captain, for holidays or just for a day. Some of the houseboats are fixed, with others you can tour between Schleswig and Kappeln at a maximum of 15 km / h. If you want to be at the wheel yourself, you need a sports boat license for sea waters. The Schlei offers a lot of opportunities to explore and experience this unique region in northern Germany! 00:00:00 greeting 00:05:22 On the way on the houseboat 00:08:53 Smoked fish in Kappeln 00:15:05 The small towns on the Schlei 00:23:40 A visit to the "country doctor" 00:36:30 The adventurer Wilfried Erdmann 00:43:22 The early bird and the bird world 00:50:02 Schleswig, the metropolis of the north 01:01:59 Live like the Vikings 01:17:41 On a dive in the Baltic Sea 01:22:00 The Ostseebad Damp 01:27:49 Goodbye Do you like our channel?
