This is the first in a new series of videos of me demoing some of the my basses. I bought this Yamaha RBX260F fretless bass on eBay a fortnight ago. I have been looking into converting one of my existing basses into a fretless but the cost (and risk) was much higher than buying this bass. There are bargains to be had on eBay if you look carefully. It's got the standard RBX body shape (which is very comfortable) and a lined fretless fingerboard that marks out the positions of the 24 "frets" on the bass. The electronics are a P style pickup with tone and volume controls. when I got the bass the controls were loose but I managed to get the knobs off and tighten the nuts. The action is super low and it's currently fitted with roundwound strings. This gives it a lovely growl but I'm thinking of putting flatwound strings on it instead to give a more "double bass" like feel. EDIT: I've since put flatwound strings on it In this video I'm improvising in E minor to a drone that was created with two synth rack extensions in Reason. The bass was processed with some compression, chorus and echo to emphasis the "mwah mwah". It really is a lot of fun to play!
