When AC came to Aberystzwyth he began focus intensively on etching, lithography and drawing in addition to painting. He had an equal interest in photography and film. In 1974, AC held his first exposition at the University of Wales under the titel "Pictures for a Small Room" which was enthusiastically received by the public and press. In 1982, AC was awarded a three month Sir Winston Churchill Fellowship in Photography as an Art, which led him to the Italian photographer Elio Ciol. This took him also to Gimignano, in the Tuscany. There, he intensified his interest in photography, which resulted in a large study of the Welsh photographer John Thomas. On September 4, 2002, the Kunsthistorische Museum opened the exhibition "Arresting Time Erich Lessing Reportage Photography, 1948 - 1973" in the Palais Harrach in Vienna. The concept and text were written by Alistair Crawford, who had a long-standing collaboration with the Austrian photographer Erich Lessing.
