As I currently have a backlog of footage to edit, I decided to make this one a double episode. I edited down two eight-minute videos into one eleven minute one. As such I will provide chapters below to allow those who wish, to watch each one separately. This video covers the rest of my post flood survey day of this river. So far, I am only seeing damage to the river not the fish or their food. I carried out a series of bug counts during the day, and though down a little there are still plenty of nymphs for the trout to feed on. I was also pleasantly surprised to see good numbers of the smaller trout had survived and were thriving. Unfortunately, not many of the mature (larger) ones were to be seen or caught. That could be down to the fact that the river was still running very high at the time. I did hook and lose a larger fish near the end of the day, so maybe they just haven't made it this far up yet. Time will tell. Chapters 00:00 Heading upstream. 01:00 Too deep to cross. 01:09 Fishing the largest pool. 03:18 Hookup! 05:02 Netting the fish. 05:50 Admiring & releasing the fish. 06:07 Driving to the last stop for the day. 06:22 Walking to the final pool. 06:55 Fishing commences. 08:25 Hookup, fight & Escape! 09:20 Another attempt. 09:50 Hookup! 10:40 Netting the second fish. 10:50 Admiring & releasing the second fish. The equipment that caught this fish as follows: The rod is a Loomis & Franklin IM12 11' #3 weight. The reel is a Sage ESN. The fly line is an Airflo SLN Euro Nymph Comp Special. The leader is 30' 12 lb mono, to 10' of 3X Fluorocarbon to the point fly. I tie my own Euro flies. I usually only use two patterns all year. Both are linked here • Pheasant Tail Nymph - Version 2.0 tied on a size 14 or 10 Barbless jig hook with a 3.0 or 4.5mm slotted bead. The other is this one • Generic Soft Hackle Nymph - Version 2.0 tied on a size 14 or 10 barbless jig hook with a size 3.0 or 4.5mm slotted bead. On this day I was also testing a small weighted Pheasant Tailed nymph on the dropper tag. I have tied a few to test using three different methods. I will continue testing until I can confirm the effectiveness and durability of this pattern. Then I will publish a tying video.
