North students and I joined 10 other students from Stourport High School and Barr Beacon School on an amazing journey where comfort zones were pushed to the outer limits, we faced and solved problems which were completely alien to our lives in the UK and our students done themselves, their parents and the school proud. Their work ethic and determination were an inspiration to everyone. They helped make a huge, lasting and positive impact on the lives of many people in rural communities and made friendships and memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. I feel incredibly proud of all we achieved, the extraordinary teamwork and endless effort that went into this trip from the moment the students signed up, the fundraising and the impressive amount of hard work that went into daily life in Peru. · We were welcomed at Camp Moray by the local community with Peruvian dances and while there we did project work such as digging out foundations, laying stones, mixing cement, we helped build a toilet for a local family, made guinea pigs pens and plastered walls of a community house with mud. Visited a textile fayre from the local community. We then trekked for 10k to the archaeological site the Moray Ruins · We trekked along the Salkantay trail which is 45 miles along the Andes mountain range and at altitude of 4,600m over 4 days, camping along the way, on the 5th day we climbed over 2000 step to reach Machu Picchu where we had a guided tour of the ruins followed by a scenic train journey to Sacred Valley for some rest. · We stayed at Camp Titicaca where our ‘Peru Crew’ students were able to hand out the Paddington bears they had had kindly sponsored by local businesses to children at the local orphanage. We also did a trip to the amazing Uros Islands where we learned about life on floating reed islands. We celebrated Peru Independence day with the camp community. · At Camp Colca we helped out with building foundations for a fence to secure a Culture Centre, cleared a mountain pathway of stones and helped lay the floor to complete a hospital building and enjoyed a dedication celebration as the building was Christened in Peruvian tradition. We also went on a 10k trek to the Colca Canyon where we were able to see amazing Condors in flight.
