Im from Staten Island so Cuban Linx is a very important album to me and August 1 is the 30th anniversary so figured release it the same week in celebration after a pretty dope raekwon drop in emperors new clothes. Original has some of most immaculate production on it by GOATS… These are the same producers who influenced me all together on one album so I tried to find beats that truly echo’d the essence of originals in feel/construction while being different altogether. late 00's rza (state of grace, secret indictment, mean streets) pete rock (pjs, have mercy, sonnys missing) ughh (dilla:hofd, necro:gihad) street rap (broken safety, thousands to ms, surgical glove) commercial (dre: catalina) String and horn chops. Like old timey crime noir ost mixed with modern street rap rae. Akin to the sound on black Mozart/sonnys missing/mean streets/state of grace. Also added in are the expanded movie scenes and used the killer score for transitions. So in the end, just wanted to make a record that hit similar styles that felt like a full record in its own way and show how the inspiration made its way 360. Not tryna match a classic, just give fans of that classic a similar taste. Hopefully over time, ill widdle it down, make some alterations and get it sonically where I want it.
