Last Village of India in Himachal Pradesh ! From snow-clad hills and secluded pathways to gushing streams, Chitkul, just like villages in Himachal Pradesh, melts your heart in every way! In pop culture the place is known as the Last Inhabited Indian Village of India. Nestled in the picturesque eastern edge of Sangla Valley of Kinnaur, Chitkul. is an adventure lover’s delight, a geography enthusiast’s paradise, and an all-out, enchantingly surreal landscape that lends eternal delight! At 11,320 feet above sea level, Chitkul is hard to reach. But like they say its all things worth having in life don’t come easy, so Chitkul should definitely be on that list. The road to Chitkul village is again narrow and bumpy, meandering through the mountain edges. There are some landslides area on the way, where stones can shoot down any time. Anyone who has been to Kinnaur can vouch for how breathtaking the place is. But it’s the tiny villages in the valley that all have my heart. Still untouched by the tourists and heavy commercialisation, one such village is Batseri. It is a progressive village in Sangla Valley – ethnic and antiquated; with its paved pathways, slanting roofs of shale and women tending the fields. Very noticeably the villages in the Kinnaur Valley were well off financially. Apple being the major cash crop here, the population with a very high literacy rate here are employed in the apple cultivation or the allied industries. As these picturesque villages leave their imprint on my mind, I realise how mountains give us the best lessons on humanity. Of hard work, tough lives yet simplicity, happiness and contentment. On one hand there are rugged landscapes, sturdy mountains and on the other there is delicacy of flowers appearing in the most unexpected places. And then there are sturdy people: breaking stones, building roads, leading precarious lives with the softest hearts and genuine smiles. You have seen me UNTRAVEL the world, one story at a time.
