On 22 February 2017 I started to record the renovation of a block of flats in Peterborough, UK. I used a IP camera mounted on a nearby building with an ethernet connection to a laptop inside a shed next to the building. Timelapse software from https://iptimelapse.com/ was programmed to take a photo every three minutes between 0800 and 1700, Monday to Friday. I visited the site every few weeks to copy photos to a separate hard drive to keep them safe. The system worked perfectly and the laptop was not switched off for more than two years. The final day of filming was 17 April 2019. By this time the camera and laptop had taken almost 100,000 photos, which had to be turned into a timelapse film. The best way to do this was to import the daily folders of photos into Photoshop as an image sequence and then render the video file. Unfortunately, the naming convention of the capture software, based on year, month, date, hour, minute, second format, was not suitable for Photoshop, which needs sequential numbers. I used RegexRenamer [http://regexrenamer.sourceforge.net/] to rename EVERY SINGLE IMAGE. It took me two days. The images were 2688 x 1520 pixels at 96dpi, so when I import them into Adobe Premiere Pro and pull them down to a 1080p timeline I can move the crop around within the bigger image. I can also zoom in on parts of the image using the scale control without losing quality. The footage will be incorporated into a short documentary for the client, so it will be chopped up and shown in bits. However, I thought it might be cool to do an 'uncut' full-frame version with some nice vintage electronic dance music. I hope you like it.
