With a population of 70,000, Estepona is one of the few coastal towns that has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character. Notwithstanding, all the tourist facilities are here, including hotels, restaurants, leisure and cultural activities, and shops. Estepona is a rare coastal destination - one of the few towns on the Costa del Sol to have retained its character and traditional feel, despite the influx of tourism in this part of Andalucía. The Casco Antiguo (old town) is what you'd expect from a picturesque Andalucian town - narrow, cobbled streets lined with beautiful stone houses and plazas, and walls ablaze with vibrant colors from the large variety of flora. This part of the town is truly beautiful and has the majority of tapas bars and Spanish restaurants, as well as most hostals or hostels. You will find bars and small shops in Estepona, where you'd least expect them, all very inviting and friendly. In the summer evenings, the terraces are full of diners. Stroll around the old town and you will also find a few hidden gems. Many restaurants are located around Plaza de las Flores and nearby Calle Sta. Ana and Calle Castilla. On the east side of Calle Terazza the parallel streets of Calle Caridad and Calle Málaga have many restaurants all the way down to Plaza Ortiz.
