Frank Cohn was born in Breslau, Germany on August 2, 1925. After the Nazis came to power in January 1933, their antisemitic policies made life increasingly difficult for Jews in Germany, including the Cohn family. In 1938 the Cohn family fled Germany and arrived in New York on October 30, 1938. In 1943, A month after turning 18, Frank Cohn was drafted into the United States Army. Attached to the 87th Infantry Division, Cohn was sent to Belgium where it was discovered that he spoke German. He was immediately reassigned to an intelligence unit named T-Force charged with assessing the value of captured individuals and buildings.
