These pickups were installed on this '84 Gibson Explorer when I bought it, but one of them didn't work and I never had a clue about what they were. So I had them replaced with DiMarzios and kept them in a drawer for 15 years. Recently, I showed them to a pickup maker and he said they were probably generic ceramic pickups. That gave me some courage to open up the broken guy and try to repair it, trying to figure out in the meanwhile what model was that. Turns out these are PAF reissues made in the 80s by Gibson with the help of Tim Shaw, the first person to reverse-engineer their first humbuckers. Here's what I found: Roughcast Alnico magnet White plastic spacers 7.4kohm DC resistance Patent number stamped on back Ink code on back (faded, last 3 digits seem to be "284") Penny-coloured copper wire Unpotted Amp: AcedoAudio 296 (all-tube 30w boutique amp, made in Brazil) Mic: Shure SM 57 Mic preamp / Audio interface: Mackie Onyx Blackjack Pedals: 1:18 - Orange Squeezer clone (Tonepad, built by me) 2:25 - TS-9 Tubescreamer clone (Tonepad + Keeley mods, built by me) 4:12 - Rat clone (Tonepad, built by me) 6:05 - Shred Master clone (EFX pedais, made in Brazil)
