Ground Control is an adult female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was rescued when she crash landed at the bottom of a flight of stairs a week ago. She was initially unhappy and probably bruised, followed by unhappy and a little flat. On day 3, she was well enough to go to Merryn's aviary, where she hung out with the girls for a few days, and was unexpectedly well enough for hard release after a week in care. Maggie and I LOVE hard releases so we went and completely botched collecting her: 2 new intruders in the aviary spooked the bats, so it took us a while to catch her and untangle her octopus feet from the mesh. To continue my botching up, I was going to video GC on her flight, with my phone. Fortunately I didn't switch off the video glasses, but I did somehow turn my video off, not on, so I missed the take off with the best camera. There is some footage of the flight before my phone got in the way of the video glasses. It will have to be enough - because despite the lack of footage, Maggie and I got our usual kick out of seeing her fly off. YAY. Fly free Missie Ground Control, and make sure you avoid stairwells in the future. Go finish your pregnancy out in the wild as it's meant to be. (we think she's pregnant - most of the girls will be at this time of the year).
