The online Field Day at Wintinna Station in September 2023 shared an update on the Virtual Fencing Trial underway on the property. The field day discussed how the trial was implemented, including the time taken to induct cattle and factors that affected results. This recording shows where the virtual fencing was used and where cattle moved as a result. SARDI Senior Research Officer Megan Willis ran the four-month trial on the property, located near Marla in the far North of South Australia, to determine if virtual fencing could be used to facilitate rest-based grazing of cattle in an extensive production system, without impacting the temperament of cattle. The trial was funded by a South Australian Department of Innovation and Skills Research Commercialisation and Start-Up Fund Grant and supported by the South Australian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, through funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund.
