I buy cheap electronics off dark web marketplaces. Laptops, GPUs, hard drives. I know which vendors to trust, how to check PGP-signed listings, how escrow works. I've been doing this for three years without a problem. Three weeks ago, I bought a 2TB external hard drive for $15 in Bitcoin from a vendor with an 800+ transaction history and a 4.9 rating. When I plugged it in to wipe it, the files weren't erased. They were organized into folders by year: 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029. The 2024 files showed my neighborhood. My building. My window. The 2025 files showed the inside of my apartment -- but with things in it I don't own. The later files showed someone living there. In my clothes. At my desk. Looking at photos of me.
