Dr. Jerry Argovitz, CEO of JASI (Jerry Argovitz Sports Institute), and president of Land Baron Investments, was the speaker for the March 4 presentation of the Alan and Linda Cohen Family Foundation Sports and Entertainment Law Lecture. The presentation took place in the Inlow Hall Wynne Courtroom on March 4. Dr. Argovitz discussed, "How a Dentist Drilled the NFL and Changed the Way the Game is Played." Dr. Argovitz was a United States Football League (USFL) team owner, player agent, and entrepreneur. He was the named defendant in the conflict of interest case, Sims v. Argovitz. With clients such as Billy Sims, Herschel Walker, and Jim Kelly, he successfully negotiated and protected his clients’ interest while changing the way the game is played. He negotiated the first million dollar contract in NFL history, brokered the deal that brought underclassman into the draft for the USFL and NFL, and contributed to the case where the NFL was found in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. The event was made possible through the Alan and Linda Cohen Family foundation Sports and Entertainment Law Fund. The fund was established in 2011 by Alan H., ’73, and Linda M. Cohen, and their daughter, Lauren Cohen Emundson, ’05.
