Date filmed: Wednesday the 9th of April 2025 Videos filmed at: 17:14 | 17:20 Route: Merseyrail Northern Line Between Birkdale (BDL) and Southport (SOP) Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: Duke Street, Southport (PR8 1JE) A level crossing on Duke Street in the pleasant but genteel seaside town of Southport, one of 5 level crossings within the space of about a mile on Merseyrail's Northern Line! This is in much more of a generic (but still pleasant) suburban area compared to the other level crossings in the area, with fewer eye-catching buildings and a relatively main thoroughfare going over it, although there is the delight (?) of the British Lawnmower Museum a block or so away. A newer alarm here is perfectly audible unlike a number of new alarms in the area, yet an old, barely-audible and mostly defective original alarm still remains un-replaced at this crossing for some odd reason (possibly due to it being under-powered), ironically one of the only alarms in the area that could do with some attention. Like the nearby crossing on Portland Street, this one also has a total of six LED wigwags due to side roads on both sides of the crossing. Other level crossings (in this case the ones on Portland Street and Aughton Road) are clearly visible looking both ways down the line at this location, somewhat unusual.
