Capital of the Unelles (Gallic people), it was named Cosédia, then renamed Constantia in the 4th century. ⚔️ Coutances was the administrative, judicial, and religious capital of Cotentin until 1795, when the administrative capital was established at Saint-Lô. 💣 It was hard hit by the Hundred Years War, then by the Wars of Religion. Another blow was dealt to the city during the bombings of June 6 and 13, 1944, during which the city was destroyed at 60%! 🏗️ The reconstruction was done in respect of the traditional architecture of the city.
