The Space Program PolarLight : Re-detecting soft X-ray polarization from the Crab Nebula

A re-detection of soft X-ray polarization from the Crab Nebula has been reported by Professor Feng Hua and his collaborators with the space program PolarLight, indicating that this long-awaited window in astronomy has been reopened. PolarLight also detected a possible time variation of polarization, likely associated with the pulsar in the Crab Nebula. Pulsars are the most accurate clocks in the universe. The new results may shed light on their physical nature. The technique that is used in PolarLight to detect soft X-ray polarization will be utilized in a future NASA mission and a future Chinese-European mission.
