Fmm# seven martyrs #franciscan saints# Mary of the Passion my seven joys and seven sorrows# seven pearls# fmm saints. In 1899, the seven sisters volunteered to go to Taiyuanfu, the capital of Shanxi Province in China, at the invitation of Bishop Gregorio Grassi, a Franciscan. They were to assist in an orphanage and provide medical care and education to the local population. Despite knowing the challenges ahead, the sisters responded with great faith and readiness to serve. Their names were: 1. Sr. Mary Hermina of Jesus (France) – The superior of the group, she was known for her strength, serenity, and leadership. 2. Sr. Mary of Peace (France) – A quiet and prayerful sister who radiated inner strength. 3. Sr. Mary Clare (France) – Known for her lively spirit and deep commitment to mission. 4. Sr. Mary of St. Natalie (France) – She was deeply rooted in simplicity and peace. 5. Sr. Mary Amandina (Belgium) – Nicknamed “the laughing sister” by the local children, for her joyful and humorous nature. Their martyrdom made a profound impact, both locally and globally. In the face of hatred, their response was love. In the face of death, they offered peace. Their courage continues to inspire the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary around the world to live their calling with boldness and joy. 6. Sr. Mary Adolphine (Netherlands) – Humble, hardworking, and gentle in her service. 7. Sr. Mary of St. Just (France) – The youngest among them, full of youthful zeal and courage.
