According to OG Melbourne Shufflers. They never called the dance "Rocking" it was a local from a different city named Dave Nisbit* Who made his own video / documentary called The Melbourne Shuffle documentary. He apparently coined this phrase "rocking" and it stuck ever since.. So do you use the term Rocking when explaining it so someone, or not? That's a good question.. I would say let them know the history on it and tell them that "Rocking" just means rocking out at the club or show, that's it. But that it got associated with "Rock-ing" back and forth with your t-step sequences, which isn't correct, but that's how a lot of people have come to know and understand it today. Rocking has somehow ended up with many definitions, what it definitely IS, is using the upper body ROCK sort of hinging and swaying at the hips othereise known as a (Body Rock) While T -stepping. This is how you get the desired look, sway and feel that Melbourne Rockers displayed in their videos from back then. I Don't mention the Body Rock specifically here in the video but I do mention the chest bounce or chest groove which is essentially the same thing. It's also known as a style, the "Rocker Style" I explain what this is and what it means to be a Rocker. This can seem like really advanced stuff and to the beginners who are reading this, don't stress this right now. It'll come in time. You just have to practice (A lot). I have added some really easy ways for you to get into this sought after desired t step sequence / rocking that will help you develop your overall rock. Basically it's a way of life. It's many things, it's the body rock / hinge at the hips when your chest pumps up and when the leg / foot goes down on the beat with the music. ( Kind of like top rocking in Hip-hop, So i've been told) except, this is different. Remember, the rock also ISN'T JUST GOING IN A FIGURE 8 STYLE EITHER. ( This was heavily perpetuated from the shuffle dance crew Zionify in Canada pre 2016-2017. Some call it NuRocking (This is how I originally learned and drilled relentlessly) The figure 8 although these days is used as sort of a foundation for the Rock, it's not the entirety of the the substyle just so we're all aware. The Melbourne Shuffle being the umbrella, And Rocking is associated with the melbourne shuffle and is under that umbrella. Rocker Style, there's even a fashion style that came with it back in the day and even today still. Kind of like a skateboarder look because melbourne shuffle was drawn to skaters too. Pretty neat, baggy pants or shorts backwards hat, white t shirt skater shoes such as DS's. This is your bread and butter here and is the foundation for the dance, heavy use of T Step. For now, I want you to practice getting the basics down of the drills I implement in this tutorial. We will add everything all together in a latter video. There is no rush, this is a journey so be patient with yourself and let everything really soak in and practice the fundamentals and foundation that I have posted thus far. It's going to be a long but worthwhile journey and I have lots to share and teach you so buckle up because this is just the beginning. Remember , right now we're only focusing on our T Step foundation with the Rocking technique. I hope this video helped, I really enjoyed this one a lot. Let me know your thoughts below.
