On Saturday June 12th, the Black River and Western railroad began running regular passenger trains for the season between Ringoes and Flemington, NJ along their former PRR rails. My buddy Nick let me know he was running the trains on the 12th, and that he'd be using the railroad's former Erie SW9, BR&W 438 to pull the trains, which were operating at 10:45, 12, 1:45 and 3:15 outta Ringoes and at 11:30, 1 and 2:30 outta Flemington, with a wedding excursion at 4 out of Flemington as well. With a full day of runs and a cloudy day, I had a little more flexibility to shoot a few different angles... The SW9 was a beast too, and has quite a lineage, after working for the Erie Railroad, going to Conrail, NJT and SMS before coming to Black River... In this video, you'll see the train at various locations along the line, with the 438 working hard upgrade and lots of noise from the locomotive's nice Leslie RS5T horn. Locations and what not are in the video. Enjoy!
