This is the first part of a new series where I show you the strategies I use for starting and completing projects, using a Minecraft build as an example! I wanted to release several at a time but, well…ADHD. I tried very hard to make this ADHD friendly. Please put suggestions for improvements in the comments and/or post your own favorite tips and tricks! footnotes for video: 00:39.84 Yes, correct, this is the right place to look! 01:53.00 My theory on ADHD is that it’s all about inertia. When I’m psyched up to do something the last thing I want is to be derailed by random chaos. I give myself the space I need to take a breath and wrap my brain around the new circumstances. 02:00.00 If the block will take longer than 10 minutes to resolve, I will allow myself 5 - 10 minutes to make progress on it, then get to work. Usually that’s enough for my brain to feel unblocked. (Most of the block is in my mind after all). 02:29.00 These things are usually easier to take care of than my brain’s first freak-out estimate. 02:59.00 I keep all project tasks highly visible. I find this is VITAL to me getting anything done. Post it notes on a prominent wall in my workspace do the trick. 03:06.00 If the word “priorities” makes you gag a bit, just hang with me. My version will hopefully work better for you. 03:26.00 A clear goal makes the whole process much easier. 03:39.00 The part of post-its in this video will be played by oak signs 04:46.00 Use whatever categories work best for you. These were just the words that popped into my head this time. 05:48.00 If I think something distracting will take less than a couple minutes to take care of, I’ll just get it out of the way. I this case I had no idea where that witch was hiding, so I did my best to let her be. 06:36.00 I need my systems to have flexibility built in so that it works with how my brain works. You’ll see this in action more in future videos. Hope to see you in part 2, where I’ll get deeper into project planning and what to do when new random junk gets thrown at you.
