'Lux', for mixed choir (2025)

'Lux' is a piece for mixed choir written for Ad Parnassum (2025). In this piece I blended Mandelstam’s words with the well-known Lux aeterna text from the Requiem Mass, because many people associate a sacred place with peace, light, and positivity. This is reflected in the structure of the piece. Those who listen to the composition experience a sense of threat and violence when Mandelstam’s texts are sung. Safety, peace, and light resonate in the Latin passages. “Because white light contains all colors, I chose to include all musically possible four-note chords in the piece. I did this in a way that felt logical to me, and in a way that supports the music.”
