3rd Generation Garden Street Kway Chap run by Jason Koh was featured on Channel News Asia's Food Empire. It tells of Jason's change of career from a professionally trained commercial pilot to a hawker, when his parents' retirement was fast approaching. Initially rejected by his parents (Koh Ah Soon and Tan Hwee Wah) for fear of passing on a life of toil to him, Jason turned up unwelcome at their hawker stall for 2 years to help out before they eventually taught him their family recipe. More than a decade on, Jason is now a 3rd generation Garden Street Kway Chap master at his stall in Serangoon Gardens Market Stall no. 21 (the big food centre opposite Chomp Chomp), keeping our heritage alive. Garden Street Kway Chap started as a street food trolley business on Garden Street, a tiny alley in what is now Parkview Square. In 1980, it was relocated to the 4th floor of Blanco Court, now known as Raffles Medical Centre.
