The Dáil is barred from discussing Irish Water's Finances

December 2014 - After many hours of debate on Irish Water we managed to get figures from the Minister suggesting there could be a net cost to the State of imposing water charges - that it'll cost more to collect the money than the amount raised. While the debate was taking time, it was critical to understanding the impact of the proposed legislation, and water charges. It was a very uncomfortable debate for the Government, but was parliament doing it's job - interrogating legislation - and doing it pretty well in this case. The debate was adjourned at 10pm, and was due to continue at 10am this morning. Instead, the Ceann Comhairle refused to allow it continue. Here's what happened.
