Thirty years ago the Mohawk uprising of 1990 was nearing it's end. Despite the reopening of the Mercier Bridge, Kahnawake was still living under military occupation. Army checkpoints and police raids were just a part of everyday life until September 18, 1990. That's when the army flew helicopters to Tekakwitha Island and the community of Kahnawake stood up and forced them to leave. In 2015, APTN’s Tom Fennario compiled a five-part oral history of the Mohawk resistance of 1990, known to many as the Oka Crisis.
