The vibrant atmosphere of Chonkia Mela in Mukandpur was alive with color, music, and excitement. The fairgrounds were filled with the aroma of freshly prepared street food, the cheerful chatter of families, and the rhythmic beats of traditional Punjabi dhol echoing through the air. Stalls lined the pathways, displaying bright bangles, handcrafted items, toys, and sweets that drew eager crowds. Children ran about with laughter, while elders gathered in groups, sharing stories and enjoying the festive spirit. One of the main highlights of the mela was the thrilling kabaddi matches. The energy around the kabaddi ground was electrifying. Players, strong and determined, faced each other with fierce focus, their movements swift and powerful. Spectators surrounded the field, cheering passionately for their favorite teams. Each raid and tackle sparked loud applause and dramatic gasps, making every moment intense and unforgettable. The dust rising from the ground, the players’ shouts of “kabaddi, kabaddi,” and the roar of the crowd created a scene full of pride and tradition. As the sun began to set and the golden light spread across the sky, I started walking back to my village in Punjab. The path led me through lush green fields that stretched endlessly in every direction. The crops swayed gently in the cool evening breeze, and the scent of fresh earth filled the air. The sky slowly turned shades of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over the landscape. Birds flew back to their nests, and the distant sounds of village life grew softer and calmer. With the echoes of the mela still in my ears and the peaceful beauty of the fields around me, the walk felt serene and reflective. The contrast between the lively fair and the quiet countryside made the moment even more special — a perfect blend of celebration and tranquility in the heart of Punjab.
