KAJIAN ISLAM:    • Pendidikan/Kajian Islam   Mayoritas ulama berpandangan bahwa wanita dimakruhkan keluar mengiringi jenazah. Demikian dinukil oleh Imam Nawawi dari pendapat mayoritas ulama dan mayoritas sahabat seperti Ibnu Mas’ud, Ibnu ‘Umar, Abu Umamah, dan ‘Aisyah. Lihat Al Majmu’, 5: 278. Sedangkan ulama Hanafiyah berpendapat bahwa keluarnya wanita untuk maksud tersebut dihukumi makruh tahrim (artinya: haram). Dari Ummu ‘Athiyah –radhiyallahu ‘anha-, ia berkata, “Kami (para wanita) dilarang mengiringi jenazah. Namun larangannya tidak terlalu keras bagi kami.” (HR. Bukhari no. 1278 dan Muslim no. 938). Ibnu Hajar menjelaskan bahwa maksud hadits di atas, “Tidak ditegaskan jika hal tersebut terlarang keras sebagaimana dalam larangan-larangan lainnya. Seakan-akan Ummu ‘Athiyah berkata: kami dilarang mengiringi jenazah dan bukan larangan haram (tetapi makruh).” Al Qurthubi menjelaskan, “Secara tekstual, hadits Ummu ‘Athiyah menunjukkan bahwa larangan yang dimaksud adalah larangan makruh tanzih. Demikian pendapat mayoritas ulama. Imam Malik berpendapat bolehnya.
