Death on campus: Dead body found in creek identified as UT-Austin freshman - TomoNews

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Authorities are investigating the death of a University of Texas at Austin student whose body was found on campus and later identified as Haruka Weiser, a freshman dance major from Portland. ABC 13 reports that 18-year-old Weiser was last seen leaving the drama building around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. She was returning to her dorm but never made it, prompting a roommate to report her missing the next morning. Around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, campus police found her body in Waller Creek, next to the Alumni Center. Classmates said the creek trail was Weiser's usual route home, reports the Austin American-Statesman. Though details of her death have not been released, investigators say Weiser was assaulted before being killed, and classified her death as a homicide. Police are currently looking for a person of interest in the case, who was seen on surveillance video the night Weiser was killed. Believed to be a six-foot-tall and black, the man was walking a red or pink women's bike in the area, according to KXAN.
