THE CRIMES AND LEGACY OF COMMUNISM | Mario Jareb Mario Jareb (Zagreb, March 29, 1969), is a Croatian historian. Mario Jareb was born in 1969 in Zagreb. He completed primary and secondary school in Zagreb.[1] He graduated in history and archeology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb in 1994. He obtained his master's degree the same year at the Central European University in Budapest (diploma certified in 1998). From October 1994 to July 1995, he was in the Croatian Army. He received his doctorate on May 28, 2003 with a thesis on the development and operation of the Ustaše movement from its inception to April 1941. The Croatian Centre for the Renewal of Culture (Centar za obnovu kulture – COK) hosted New Direction's 2023 Summer University from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 July at the Hotel Dubrovnik in Zagreb. An intense and decisive struggle is underway in Europe and beyond. Reheated versions of old-fashioned Socialism and New Left movements, masquerading as liberal, are trying to subvert traditional Western values. That confrontation involves not just government but nationhood and the identity of the human person. How can conservatives fight back and win? What issues must we address? What messages should we press? Our Summer University dealt with all this – working from first principles and historic experience.
