Prince August has a limited supply of Printer's Metal. This is a high lead content metal that comes from scrap type that were used by Printers prior to the advent of Computers and digital design. This metal has antimony too, which makes it a harder metal than you might expect from a majority lead based metal. Due to the lead content, safety precautions like ventillation and hand washing is important. This is not suitable for kids to handle. It takes approximately 15 minutes to melt this metal with our Solder Pot. Turn the heat up to full until the metal has fully melted, then turn it down to about half way (mark 6) to keep the temperature even. To remove dross (impurities) and dirt (old ink) you need to use our ladle to scoop out the excess dross after spinkeling in a pinch of the red Stanogen flux powder. You may need to do this several times as there will be a lot of dross with this old metal. Flux helps separate the metal from the dross, thus reclaiming metal that normally would coat the dross. Remove as much as practically possible so you have access to clean shiny liquid metal. Assemble the mould. Clamp it. Scoop up some metal with the ladle and pour that metal into the hole in the mould until full. Tap the mould immediately after or during this process to help settle the metal. Leave the metal cool in the mould for 5 to 8 minutes depending on the amount of metal in the mould. The metal will take a little longer to cool than Model Metal would as it needs more heat to melt. Finally disassemble the mould and carefully open it to reveal your casting. Bend the mould slightly to help remove the figure. Cut the ingates off and polish the figure with a brush to shine it and remove any remaining dust. Once complete you can prime the clean figure and paint it. Website: https://shop.princeaugust.ie
