This Doodly video consists of a reading of an article entitled "12 Steps to Becoming a Better Frame Drummer -- by Layne Redmond." I created this video in honor of what would be Layne's 70th birthday on August 19, 2022. These 12 steps were found in various blogs and writings of Layne's and compiled into one Facebook post by Kadambari Maa of Myth Muse Mantra. What a treasure to have these in one place! Thank you, Kadambari for your ongoing work in helping preserve Layne's legacy. Layne's two original articles are posted below. Steps 1-5 are in Part One, and steps 6-10 are found in Part Two. The other two steps were added from other writings of Layne's found by Kadambari. Enjoy! https://framedrummer-blog.tumblr.com/... https://framedrummer-blog.tumblr.com/... There were no images of frame drummers to choose from in the Doodly program I used to make this video. But if you use your imagination, the woman kneeling over the djembe can look like she's playing a frame drum. And while this article focuses on frame drumming, it is relevant for all drummers! As a fairly new frame drummer, I am only beginning to appreciate the wonder of this instrument and the invaluable contribution Layne made to the world. I never had the privilege of meeting Layne, but am finding great joy in learning her rhythms and teachings, as well as studying her ground-breaking book "When the Drummers Were Women: A Spiritual History of Rhythm." From the the back cover of this book: "Layne Redmond (1952-2013) has recorded five albums, been featured on NPR's All Things Considered, and was profiled in The New York Times and other major magazines and national publications. Ms. Redmond was the first female musician to have her own line of drums launched by Remo, Inc." I also want to honor the following drum teachers for their ongoing inspiration in my life: Jim Greiner -- my long-time djembe teacher, mentor and friend Marla Leigh -- frame drum Ken Dalluge -- drum set If you find value in my channel's content, you may want to make a contribution to "Bobi's Tip Jar" found below in my Koji app: https://koji.to/k/6BmS #framedrum #layneredmond #womandrummer
