My friend Charles let me borrow his 50mm f1.2 for a few days. Because I was busy most of the time I wasn't able to do anything extensive. I wanted to see how my 50mm 1.4 would stand against his L lens. Is the extra $800 worth it? You decide. Testing sharpness at 3 different distances on both 50mm's in lowlight conditions. Notes: *The Canon 50mm f/1.2 stopped down to f/1.4 is still brighter than the 50mm f/1.4. *The Canon 50mm f/1.4 wide open has a better looking bokeh ball than the 50mm f.1.2 @ 1.4 *The Canon 50mm f/1.2 had a harder time focusing at close distances but was faster than the 1.4 at focusing to infinity. (Same goes vice versa. 50mm 1.4 was better at focusing at close distances.) *Wide open, both bokeh balls look very similar.
