Symptoms Pathogen attacks all above the ground part. Deep yellow to orange pustule on the leaves and other parts are starting of symptom. On leaves rounded small uredosori surrounded by a chlorotic area. On stem elongated irregular symptom can be seen. Uredia preceded by reddish brown to black teleuto pustules on stem. Teleutosori appears late in season. Crop gives burnt appearance in severe cases. Plant kill when disease increase. Etiology Pathogen is an autoecious and macrocyclic forming all spores PAUTB on linseed. Mycelium septate, intercellular, branched and sub epidermis. Uredia bright orange coloured, scattered or in groups produced on leaves and stems. Uredospores ovate,hyaline. Telia brown to black, irregularly elongated, fused sub epidermis form on stem. Teliospores reddish brown, cylindrical, sessile, single celled arrange in column. Teliospores germinate producing 4 haploid basidiospores. Basidiospores infected plants and produce pycnia and aecia Pycnia pale yellow, flask shaped, sub epidermis mostly produce on leaves but occassionally on stem. Pycniospore globose shaped produce within pycnia. Aecia orange yellow cup shaped produce aesiospores. Aesiospores ellipsoidal, thin walled form in chains. Disease cycle - Air borne disease Fungus survives as teliospores present on plants debris in the hills. It also survive on self sown plant in hills. The disease spread in plains by uredospores which comes from hills through air current. Secondary spread through spores of primary infection.
