Embracing Complexity are organising a series of webinars to discuss topics related to the Top 10 Research Priorities. The Top 10 Research Priorities report can be found here: https://www.autistica.org.uk/download... This is the second webinar in the series which builds on the topic discussed in the first one and explores the impacts of stigma on barriers to service access. Featuring insights from research and lived experience, we will discuss how intersecting stigmas related to race, class, gender, and disability shape experiences and perpetuate inequality. Speakers: Yasmine Dankwah Yasmine is a British Ghanaian neurodivergent multi-disciplinary creative specialising in spoken word performance, writing, and sound design for live performance. She has performed her work at the Roundhouse and has had her work aired on BBC Radio London twice. Diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia at the age of 20, five years on, she is keen to explore how creativity can and has been used amongst her neurodivergent peers to acknowledge and interrogate the layered systems that prevent them from expressing themselves freely. She also wants to explore how creativity can give people like herself a sense of autonomy over their narratives rather than being subject to external stereotypes. Yasmine currently works as a Wired4Music Associate at the youth music charity, Sound Connections and was formerly a part of the Embracing Complexity Advisory Group. Dr Rosalie Warnock Dr Rosalie Warnock is a Research Fellow in the Geography Department at King’s College London. Drawing on her own experiences of growing up in a neurodiverse household, she explores how neurodiversity compounds other structural and societal inequalities, such as access to education, healthcare, housing, and “welfare benefits”. You can find out more about Rosalie’s research at: www.sendinequality.co.uk. Rosalie has just started a new project (with Professor Katherine Brickell at KCL and the Shared Health Foundation) which will examine neurodiverse families’ experiences of living in temporary accommodation in Greater Manchester.
