Laurent Ferrier presented a focused and technically refined lineup at Watches and Wonders 2025, emphasizing the brand’s signature commitment to traditional craftsmanship paired with thoughtful mechanical innovation. Central to this year’s showcase was the new *Classic Auto*, described as a versatile, everyday automatic watch. Housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case, it features intricate hand-finishing techniques visible on both the dial and movement side. Geneva stripes, anglage, and perlage have all been executed by hand, while the rotor bridge is shaped to resemble a bird, with the platinum micro-rotor designed and decorated to evoke feathers—an aesthetic fusion of engineering and organic form. More on the models can be found at https://laurentferrier.ch/en/collections The dial of the Classic Auto features multiple textures and finishes, including vertical and circular satin brushing, a snailed small seconds subdial, and a blue lacquer applied over a galvanically silver-coated base. This construction enhances contrast and visibility while preserving the visual depth of each layer. A particularly notable design choice is the elongated date window, which mirrors the length of the 9 o'clock index to create perfect symmetry and allows more light to enter the aperture, improving legibility without compromising aesthetic balance. Another highlight was Laurent Ferrier's natural escapement movement, a modern reinterpretation of the Abraham-Louis Breguet invention. This dual-wheel escapement is constructed using nickel-phosphorus components fabricated via the LIGA process, allowing for extremely high precision and long-term stability. The system operates with two escapement wheels and a silicon lever, engaging in a low-friction impulse mechanism. The contact area between the gear tooth and lever is just 11 microns, a detail that underscores the ultra-fine tolerances within the movement’s architecture. The brand also showcased its *Sport Auto*, which uses a Swiss lever escapement and represents a more casual yet technically robust expression of Laurent Ferrier’s design language. In addition to this, the *Classic Moon*, an annual calendar with moon phase complication, was present—this model notably won a GPHG award in the Calendar and Astronomy category, highlighting the brand’s ability to blend horological complexity with refined elegance. Robert Bailey, head of sales, provided insight into the movement mechanics and design philosophy behind these pieces. In discussing the natural escapement, he highlighted how the system slows down the gear train using a de-multiplier and relies on a unique sequence of impulses and lever shifts. These mechanical sequences aim to increase energy efficiency and timekeeping precision, while also paying homage to a historic concept reengineered for contemporary stability. On the brand’s origins, Laurent Ferrier himself spent 37 years at a prestigious Swiss maison, culminating as head of design before founding his own company in 2008 at the age of 63. The brand launched its first timepiece—the *Classic Tourbillon*—in 2009, which went on to win the GPHG in 2010. His move was driven not by a desire to disrupt the industry, but rather to pursue creative freedom and uncompromising execution of classic horology. Ferrier’s philosophy centers on the idea of “doing simple things well.” Rather than pushing for technological spectacle, the brand focuses on executing foundational watchmaking principles with precision and care. This ethos is visible across the product line: understated forms elevated by exceptional finishing, efficient mechanical design, and subtle aesthetic refinements that only become more apparent the longer one observes. This year’s presentation reinforces Laurent Ferrier’s standing as a maison that thrives on mechanical integrity, restrained elegance, and high-touch craftsmanship. From the textured dials to the unconventional escapements, each component reflects the cumulative expertise of a brand rooted in tradition yet quietly evolving through thoughtful micro-engineering.
