10-year-old Gabrielle Prince (Gabby) has been dancing in her Church services for years. With no formal training, she applies herself whole-heartedly to Idelle Packer's instruction and choreography only to discover the Hebrew letters are brimming with potential holiness. The dance opens with Gabby timidly inviting the audience into her world before gesturing the word for dance in Hebrew. The gestures carry a sense of holiness into her physical self, allowing the dance to grow from gesture to full body motion. Gabby allows the gestures to speak and transform an inner soulful focus to an outer expression of joy. Tonight's performance is Gabby's first time performing in a concert of dance. Her solo opens the program, With/In Sight, serving to bridge the world of gesture into the world of dance. Note: The Stan Tenen gestural Aleph-Bet is the source for the 4 featured letter gestures (Mem Chet Vav Lamed) that spell Machol, the Hebrew word for dance.
