Golden Era is a short documentary created as part of my thesis at Queen’s University. It provides a look into the history and tradition of Queen’s football in its golden era, featuring never-before-seen footage of the university in the 1960s. Over the past 7 months, I’ve gathered archival footage dating back to the early 1920s. From a collection of 16mm film and VHS tapes, I’ve restored and compiled hours of unseen footage into a short 6-minute film. The documentary also features my conversation with Merv Daub. Merv was a Queen’s student and captain of the Gaels football team during the late 60s. He is a renowned historian and author of Gael Force, a historical look into Queen’s football. Merv’s insight paired with the archival footage opens a window into the chaos and excitement of the university campus over 60 years ago. Golden Era is more than a football documentary, it’s a glimpse into a time when Queen’s University and the game of football were at their peak, creating traditions that continue to shape the school community to this day.
