Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) was a Persian polymath, known for his contributions to mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, and literature. His Quatrains (rubāʿiyāt رباعیات) reached the Western world after some succesful translations and have since been a source of wisdom and inspiration. The lyrics in this Quatrain are found in Edward Henry Whinfield's 1883 translation at Number 14 (۱۴). They mention the beauty behind the eyes of the beholder looking at a stone. Since the Quatrain has no title, I decided to call it "Anahita", a common feminine given name linked with the ancient Iranian goddess Anahita, associated with fertility, healing and wisdom. For the production, I went for Middle Eastern instruments, such as my Oud and my Rebec, both made by local luthiers. I also added a looped piano and some cello lines over samples of typical Middle Eastern percussion instruments, like the darbuka and the daf.
