A video of the Guardsman's Pass Tour of Utah 2015 Crash. Cyclist suffers severe injuries in high speed crash at Tour of Utah. BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — A cyclist is in stable condition after suffering severe injuries in a high-speed crash with a service car Saturday while descending Big Cottonwood Canyon during stage 6 of the multi-day race Tour of Utah. According to a press release from Tour of Utah, Matt Brammeier of Ireland was on the descent from Guardsman’s Pass in Big Cottonwood Canyon when he collided with a service car. A crash ambulance transported the man to a hospital, where it was determined he suffered severe injuries to his pelvis, ribs and lung. The release states “The team wishes Matt a speedy recovery.” Team Doctor Jarrad Van Zuydam provided a statement on the cyclist’s condition, which is reproduced below: “Matt Brammeier was involved in a high speed collision with a vehicle during the queen stage of the Tour of Utah. Thankfully, Matt has suffered no head, neck or spinal injuries and is currently stable in hospital. His musculoskeletal injuries are significant however. He suffered rib fractures on both sides as well as a small pneumothorax. He also has fractures of the sacral and pelvic bones. Matt is unlikely to require surgery but will need some time to recover from his injuries.” The Tour of Utah is a multi-stage race that covers more than 700 miles of the Beehive State and brings in cycling teams from all over the world.
