Katanas are shorter than longswords and length matters....amarite? So what if we used a BIGGER katana? In this video, I spar one of my newer HEMA students (he volunteered) using a Nodachi against his Longsword! DISCLAIMER: This video is for entertainment and...educational purposes... It was not intended to determine which sword is better. Those that spar often already know that the more skilled the fencer is, the less their weapon differences matter (excluding polearms, you're just fuc#@$ at that point) The nodachi is just a closer match to the longsword than the katana is, in both length and size. If I were fighting a seasoned longsword fencer, the results may have changed and visa versa.
