In the meeting, Trump announced an agreement on rare earth elements that will be signed later this afternoon, according to White House officials. The preliminary agreement will allow Ukraine to share its mineral resources with the U.S., which Trump says will allow America to recoup aid provided to Kyiv while supporting Ukraine’s economy. Trump discussed the deal in front of reporters soon after he greeted Zelenskyy outside the White House Friday morning. "We don't know exactly how much, because we're going to be putting some money in a fund that we're going to get from the raw Earth, that we're going to be taking and sharing in terms of revenue," Trump said in response to a question over how much the U.S. was going to contribute. "We're going to be using that, taking it, using it for all of the things we do, including AI and including weapons and the military. And it's really going to very much satisfy our needs," he said about the deal. "This has just about every component of the raw Earth that we need for computers for all of the things we do. This puts us in great shape." Trump, who described himself as a "peacemaker," said he wants to make the deal "to save lives" and to "save a lot of money." "This is a very dangerous situation. This could lead to a third World War. This was headed in the wrong direction," Trump predicted while sitting next to Zelenskyy. Trump believes the landmark economic agreement will be a "pathway to peace." "It's a pathway to getting something solved. I feel that as the head of this country that I have an obligation to do that," Trump added. "It's too bad we got involved because there should've been no involvement because there should've been no war." Trump said he was committed to NATO, but noted that Europe "needs to step up." "The Europeans have to step up more than they have.
