This is my very first video so hopefully I improve over time and provide more tutorials for the Audi A6/C6. Audizine.com & AudiWorld.com Member: audi786 What we have here is my 05 Audi A6 (C6 4F) Quattro with a steering lock actuator / start authorization immobilizer fault that happens intermittently at any given time. If you are having a problem where you cannot start the car, key is stuck, or stranded due to this situation, look no more! The Access Start Authorization lock module is a part of vehicle's steering column. Module failure is a common problem in Audi 2005-2011 A6/C6 and Q7 model vehicles. If this is happening to any of your other model/year Audi vehicle, then this is the same problem! The problem is typically identified by no start and no response from key in the ignition, or proximity access (Start button). The Start / Stop Authorization Module (along with the Electronic Ignition Switch) is responsible for key/transponder recognition, unlocking/locking of steering wheel and powering up all modules in the vehicle. If there is an issue with any of the lock module components (actuator motor, sensing micro switches, relay) or the integrated Immobilizer system Microprocessor/PCB, the module will not provide power to Terminal 15 (ignition on). The end result is, you not having any ignition and no engine start. The module will typically store "00288 - Steering Column Lock Actuator Defective" fault. The part that actually goes bad over time is the relay in the Steering module as well as the micro switches can get hard to click over time. Replacing them is the only option. The motor is very rare to fail since if you try the temporary fix below, you know the motor is activating. But it can happen so one way to check is measuring the volts with a multi-meter and see if it's fried or not if you are going to open it up and take a look at it. However most repair kits don't include the motor since it really is a very rare part of the problem. It's usually only the relay switch and the micro switches. The temporary fix for this is using VCDS software. 1. Turn on Hazard lights 2. Turn on High Beams 3. Press on the brake pedal 4. Connect the OBDII wire to your OBDII port and go on your VCDS software and go to "05 - Start/Auth Immo" -- "Fault Codes" --[You will have a fault code here relating to the Steering Lock Actuator]. 5. All you have to do is clear the code and the module will reset with the key inside the immobilizer. There is no guarantee how long this fix lasts. Can be anywhere from the next car start to days, month, or even a year. You would keep resetting this if it ever occurred. It WILL progress to being more often if the relay is going bad in the module. 6. If all else fails, disconnect the battery and re-connect to see if this helps. The permanent fix is this video I made. Please pause the video at any part of the process to help better understand what you need to do. Leave a comment down below and I will do my best to answer it. I'm no professional and just like you, had this problem and took it upon myself to fix it. Was not going to pay Audi $2400 for the whole steering column to fix it! There WAS a TSB out for this by Audi where you could get it fixed for free about...9 years ago so I was out of luck on that as many of us all are at this stage. Hence this video exists. Hope it provides useful information for you to tackle this project. Genuine part Repair Kit for modules 4F0905852B/4F0905852: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134170785931... Music: Anodized - Unknown Artist
