Defined as “the sacred place of dry land between swamps” Sanlucar is indeed part of an ecosystem created by the Gulf of Cadiz, the Guadalquivir’s delta and the Doñana’s Park, here: nature, history and cultural heritage create a particular energy. The Summer’s Horse Races on the beach in the Doñana’s side are a show that goes beyond sport. Points of interest are: the Palace of the Medina-Sidonia Dukes and the one of the Orleans and Borbon Dukes, but also the Montpensier’s Garden with trees from 5 continents remembrance of the Age of Great Exploration. From the beach of Bajo de Guia it was possible to watch boots going to sea with the Westerly Wind and coming in with the Easterly Wind. A particularity related by Pigafetta in its Diaries of the Exploration is that in the weeks spent here to ultimate the buying of supplies, the whole crew was attending Holy Mass at the church of Nuestra Señora de Barrameda every day.
