Fast forward to now, and the Prime Minister of Canada has handed in his resignation and the Liberals are about to choose a new leader. If you follow opinion polls, you'll also note that, against the backdrop of the Trump administration and an unhinged tariff obsession, it would seem that this new Liberal leader — whomever he or she may be, but likely Mark Carney — has closed the gap with voters. Poilivre's prime ministership is assured no more. But is the narrowed popularity gap real? To dig into what various polls suggest and whose opinions are changing, RealAg Radio host Shaun Haney sits down with founder of Abacus Data, David Coletto. Coletto says that there are some key shifts within the voting public, and many of them are now predicated on the ongoing face-off with a U.S. president trying his best to annex Canada. The upcoming federal election, whenever it may be, will likely not be decided on affordability, but on who best can navigate Canada's relationship with the U.S. If that's the benchmark, Coletto says, Poilievre doesn't poll as well, however the Conservatives still hold a fair margin over the Liberals.
