In this video I discuss the the misuse of the term ‘male gaze’ in pop feminist satire, as depicted in Katy Perry’s newest song ‘Woman’s World’, as well as in older works like Pink’s single - Stupid Girls, n which they both mistakenly believe that the male gaze is women dressing proactively to attract men’s attention, when in reality, the male gaze is a system in which art and media is produced to objectify women no matter what they wear. To insinuate that one can evade the male gaze by dressing a certain way only further works to slut shame women and to equate how a woman presents and dresses with her intelligence, adherence to feminist ideals, and if she is deserving of ridicule. Feminism has no aesthetic because all women present differently, and that’s good! --- --- Timestamps: 0:00 Intro/Thesis 3:28 Part 1: The Male Gaze, Katy Perry, and ‘Satire’ 15:41 Part 2: Stupid Girls and Pink 27:50 Conclusion --- --- Patreon: / cheyennelin --- --- Music: Oh My · Patrick Patrikios • Oh My --- --- Tags: Katy perry, woman’s world, dr. luke, kesha, feminism, pop music, not like other girls, internalized misogyny, the male gaze, internalized male gaze, stupid girls, pink, satire, feminist satire, pop feminism, girl boss, slut shaming, feminist analysis, women in film, media analysis, video essay
